Amazon employee receives $370,000 salary without 'doing any work'

An Amazon employee revealed that he has been receiving a $370,000 salary from the company without performing any significant work while holding a senior position for over one and a half years.

He made this confession on the Blind, an online platform where verified professionals share workplace issues.

The employee explained that he joined Amazon after being laid off by Google and is currently serving as a Senior Technical Program Manager at Amazon.

After leaving his previous employer, he aimed to find a job where he could earn more while working less. 

“I joined Amazon 1.5 years ago after being included in Google’s layoff. I joined with the intention of doing 'nothing,' getting free money, and eventually being placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP),” his post read on Blind.

Regarding his contributions to the company, the employee stated that he resolved only seven tickets and created an automated chatbot, which he claimed took three months to develop. But in reality, he created the dashboard with the help of ChatGPT in just three days.

During his eight-hour workdays, he attends meetings and attempts to shift most of the workload onto other teams. 

“My current day-to-day involves saying no to other teams wanting to integrate with my team or having them handle 95%+ of the integration work,” he added.

He concluded his post by noting that despite his relaxed performance, he has not yet received a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), a formal notice given to employees with unsatisfactory performance, requiring them to improve within a specific timeframe. 

Given the lack of notice from the tech giant, he questioned how long he would last at the company.
