A couple opted for a blunt approach to avoid unwanted guests by sending “you are not invited” wedding cards to their loved ones.
The story was shared by a Reddit user, who is the cousin of the bride or groom, on the popular "Wedding Shaming" forum.
The user explained that the couple, who was planning a small garden wedding, informed some friends and family members not to bother attending their event.
The couple decided to host an intimate ceremony due to limited space and budget and to keep the guest list small.
However, instead of simply not sending invitations they sent cards explicitly stating that these individuals were not invited.
“Cousin’s wedding is coming up soon and they are planning a small garden wedding. It’s a semi-destination wedding I would say. Five hours away from where everybody lives. They wanted it small with just family and friends due to budget,” the Reddit user wrote.
“I just found out that the wedding couple is sending ‘cards’ to people that are not invited that they are getting married soon and ‘you are in our hearts on this special day’ BEFORE the wedding,” the user continued.
According to the Redditor, the couple sent these cards out of curiosity to see how people would react and to let them know that they were remembered, even if not invited to the ceremony.
The user also mentioned feeling frustrated about attending the wedding, as the couple has asked guests to take on the responsibility of setting up tables for the reception. The couple has assigned tasks to their parents to help with wedding chores.
“I got a text from the couple saying that Everyone has a role to help set up.”
While some people have accepted these unusual wedding arrangements, others, including the cousin who shared the story, are uncertain about attending the event becuase after a five-hour drive to the venue, guests are expected to participate in the event setup.
“Wish me luck on this upcoming wedding,” the Redditor concluded.
