A British teenager, Arion Kurtaj, who engaged in a hacking spree of stealing 90 clips from the unreleased Grand Theft Auto VI, or GTA 6, game has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.
The 18-year-old skilled hacker from Oxford was diagnosed with autism. He played an important role in Lapsus$, a cybercrime gang that targeted tech giants like Uber and Nvidia, resulting in millions in damages.
Considered a public threat due to his skill and intent, he will remain confined until deemed safe by doctors.
Despite facing reports of violence while in custody, with multiple reports of injury or property damage. Kurtaj was deemed unfit to stand trial due to his acute autism.
The court focused on determining whether he committed the alleged acts, not on criminal intent.
According to his guardians, Kurtaj, even after having his laptop seized, executed his cyber attack using an Amazon Firestick, hotel television, and a mobile phone.
He infiltrated the company's internal Slack messaging system, announcing, "If Rockstar does not contact me on Telegram within 24 hours, I will start releasing the source code."
Another 17-year-old member of Lapsus$ protected by legal anonymity, faced similar charges and received a youth rehabilitation order.
The charges against them included two counts of fraud, two offenses under the Computer Misuse Act, and one count of blackmail.
