US university confers honorary PhD degree on a cat

A cat, named Max, was conferred with an honorary doctorate by a university in the Vermont state of the US, it emerged on Saturday.
The announcement was made by the Vermont State University on its Facebook account.
"Max the Cat has been an affectionate member of the Castleton family for years. He lives with his wonderful owners on Seminary Street and loves socializing with friends outside Leavenworth. While his adventures may have slowed, Max exemplifies the #CastletonWay and we are honored to have him as a member of VTSU’s," the statement from the varsity read.
The university's board of trustees has bestowed upon Max Dow the prestigious title of "Doctor of Litter-ature",
"[...] complete with all the catnip perks, scratching post privileges, and litter box responsibilities that come with it," it added.
"Congratulations Dr Max Dow."
But, Max Dow will not participate in VSU's graduation ceremony today, however, his degree will be delivered to his owners.
