In a shocking incident that unfolded in Bangkok, Thailand, a 30-year-old factory worker named Mae lost her life after being denied further sick leave by her employer.
According to media reports, Mae, who worked at an electronics factory in Samut Prakan province, had initially requested sick leave from September 5 to 9 due to a diagnosis of intestinal swelling, supported by a medical certificate.
She was granted the leave and hospitalized for treatment, but was discharged after four days. However, on September 12, when Mae's health worsened due to the demands of her job, she sought an additional two days off to recover.
Despite her deteriorating condition, her manager refused the request, citing that she had already taken sufficient leave and demanding another medical certificate for further time off.
Fearing the loss of her job, Mae returned to work but collapsed just 20 minutes into her shift. She was rushed to the hospital where doctors performed emergency surgery, but tragically, Mae passed away the following day from necrotizing enterocolitis, a severe intestinal condition.
In response to her death, the factory's management expressed deep regret and announced that an investigation would be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
