Electricity prices likely to drop next month

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a reduction in electricity prices under the monthly fuel price adjustment for December.
If approved, the price could decrease by Rs 1.03 per unit for the month.
The hearing for this petition is scheduled for January 30.
According to the CPPA, a total of 7.516 billion units of electricity were supplied to Distribution Companies (DISCOs) in December, with the fuel cost for electricity being Rs 9.60 per unit, compared to the estimated cost of Rs 10.63 per unit.
The petition also outlined the sources of electricity generation in December: 22.80% from hydropower, 10.06% from local coal, 1.59% from imported coal, and 0.03% from furnace oil.
Additionally, 12.31% of electricity was generated from local gas, 20.70% from LNG, and 26.48% from nuclear sources.
