A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Pakistan to conduct a comprehensive review of governance and corruption issues.

The mission aims to provide technical assistance to enhance Pakistan's capacity for reforms, focusing on strengthening governance and addressing corruption.

According to sources, the IMF team will start meetings with Pakistani officials on Monday, with a primary focus on supporting Pakistan’s reform efforts.

The discussions will involve reviewing budget proposals for the fiscal year 2025-26, addressing governance challenges, and negotiating technical support in this area.

The IMF delegation will also engage in talks about improving tax revenue, controlling government expenditure, and finalizing proposals for the upcoming federal budget.

The budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 is expected to be presented in the National Assembly during the first week of June.

Earlier this year, the IMF praised Pakistan for its fiscal policy achievements, including reducing public debt, controlling inflation, enhancing tax equity, and maintaining price stability.

Additionally, the IMF recently reached a deal with Pakistan for a new $1.3 billion arrangement and conducted the first review of the ongoing 37-month bailout program, as confirmed by the IMF.
