NA passes massive 138% salary raise for lawmakers

 lawmakers achieved a significant salary increase of 138% as the National Assembly approved the Members of Parliament Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill 2025 with a majority vote.

The bill was introduced by PML-N representative Romina Khurshid Alam.

This legislation aims to elevate the salaries of parliamentarians from Rs218,000 to Rs519,000, aligning their compensation with that of federal secretaries.

Having received Senate approval, the bill is now pending the President of Pakistan's endorsement to become law.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq dismissed the opposition's concerns, asserting, “Anyone unwilling to accept the salary hike should submit a written refusal.”

This decision follows a similar action taken by the Punjab Assembly in December, where lawmakers unanimously agreed to increase their salaries from Rs76,000 to Rs400,000.

In addition to the adjustments in parliamentarians' pay, the assembly also raised the salaries of provincial ministers from Rs100,000 to Rs960,000.

The salary of the speaker was increased from Rs125,000 to Rs950,000, while the deputy speaker's salary was raised to Rs800,000 from the previous Rs120,000.
