ISLAMABAD: No relief for the masses as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased the price of electricity to Rs3.5 per unit.

NEPRA has issued a notification regarding the increase in electricity prices.

According to the notification, the hike in electricity prices is due to the adjustment in fuel prices for the month of October.

The notification stated that the increase in electricity prices will be reflected in the electricity bills for December.

The hike will not be applicable to the K-Electric and lifeline consumers, the body stated.

According to NEPRA, as many as 9.25 billion units were generated from furnace oil and 3.11 billion from hydropower sources.

Earlier in September, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) also approved an increase in the price of electricity by Rs1.71 per unit on account of Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for the month of August 2023 and issued a notification in this regard.

The tariff hike was shown separately in the consumers’ bills and the effects of this raise were reflected in the bills of October 2023.

The FCA for August also had an additional burden of approximately Rs31 billion on the consumers of power distribution companies (Discos). This surge in power tariff impacted all consumer categories, sources said.
