Pakistanis imported smartphones worth $79.4 million in August: report

Pakistan imported smartphones worth over $70 million in August this year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The report revealed a mixed bag of trends in mobile phone imports by the countrymen.
On a year-on-year, mobile phone imports decreased by 29 percent in August 2024 compared to the same period last year.
However, on a month-on-month basis, imports surged by 23 percent in August 2024 compared to July 2024.
Pakistanis spent $79.4 million on mobile phone imports in August, up from $64.5 million in July.
In the first two months of the current financial year 2024-25, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $143.8 million.
Notably, the second month saw a 20 percent decrease in mobile phone imports.
Comparing the current financial year to the previous one, mobile phone imports in the first two months stood at $143.8 million, down from $174.5 million in the corresponding period last year.
During the last financial year, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.898 billion.
