Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the suspension of electricity bill collection for August in flood-affected areas across Pakistan.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the prime minister on electricity bills in flood-hit regions. He instructed power distribution companies to halt the recovery process immediately.
According to the prime minister, a final relief package for flood victims regarding electricity bills will be announced once negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are concluded.
For consumers in flood-affected areas who have already paid their August bills, adjustments will be made in the following month’s billing.
Sharif noted that the recent floods have impacted millions of people nationwide. He said both federal and provincial institutions would continue their efforts for relief and rehabilitation until the affected families are able to return to their homes.
The prime minister stressed, “We will not rest until the flood victims are resettled.”
