Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah presented Rs3.056 trillion budget for 2023-2024 in the provincial legislature on Friday.

During the budget speech, the CM announced a 22 percent to 30 percent salary increase for government employees.

The Sindh government has decided to increase salaries for government employees by 30% for grades 1 to 16, and 22% for those in grades above 17.

The budget session commenced at 4pm in the Sindh Assembly after Friday prayers.

CM Murad, who is also serving as the provincial Finance Minister, announced a 15% increase in pensions and set the minimum wage at Rs. 37,000.

Earlier, Minister for Energy Syed Nasir Hussain Shah stated in a press briefing that President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto sought to ensure that the incomes of the government employees match the inflation rate.

“Providing water facilities and low-cost electricity to the people of Sindh are the top priorities in the budget and Bilawal Bhutto wishes that no new tax be imposed on the people,” he added.

A day earlier, the Punjab government announced a 25% increase in salaries for government employees and a 15% increase in pensions during its budget presentation.

Federal government employees also received a 25% salary increase as the government unveiled a Rs128.9 trillion budget on June 12.
