AKUH secures 85th spot in 'Global Top 250 Hospitals' list

The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Karachi has secured the 85th spot on the 250 Academic Medical Centers list, according to the 2024 Global Top Hospitals report by Brand Finance.

While AKUH stands alone as the only Pakistani hospital in the top 100, Mayo Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Combined Military Hospital, and University Dental Hospital also appeared on the list.

The United States dominated the rankings, with Mayo Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital claiming the number one and two spots, respectively. 

India's AIIMS hospital clinched the third position, with two other Indian institutions also securing positions within the top 100.

This marks the second time Brand Finance has released its ranking of the world's top academic medical centers.

The ranking considered several factors, including a healthy environment with modern facilities, advanced medical technologies that ensured optimal patient care and treatment outcomes.

The list also scrutinised the expertise and empathy of healthcare providers, the hospital’s convenient location, its range of medical specialties, and its affordability through financial aid programs and discounted services, which ensures that quality healthcare is accessible to all social classes.

With a legacy spanning nearly four decades, AKUH has established itself as a leader in healthcare excellence in Pakistan. It holds the distinction of being the first hospital in the country to achieve ISO certification in 2000, and JCI accreditation in 2006. 

In 2015, AKUH became the first JCI-accredited Academic Medical Center (AMC) in the country, and in 2017, it secured the first Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) accreditation.

“This latest recognition underscores AKUH’s commitment to exemplary patient care, teaching standards, ground-breaking research, and extensive community service initiatives, not only within Pakistan but also reaching beyond its borders,” the statement released by the institute read. 

“Renowned for its state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge equipment, and a team of highly skilled medical professionals, AKUH stands out as a beacon of innovation and excellence in Karachi’s healthcare landscape,” it added.
