A 15-kilogram tumor was successfully removed from a woman’s abdomen following surgery at Lyari General Hospital in Karachi.

According to details, Dr. Anjum Rehman, head of Lyari General Hospital, stated that the woman, a resident of Thatta, was brought to the emergency department in a critical condition.

The 38-year-old mother of five was found, during initial medical tests, to have a large and heavy tumor.

Dr. Rehman added that the case was complex, but a team of specialists successfully performed the surgery and removed the tumor. The patient’s condition has now improved post-operation.

Earlier,  the Department of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital  successfully carried out an “Awake Brain Tumor Surgery” on a six-year-old child — the youngest case of its kind ever recorded in medical literature.

The child remained conscious throughout the intricate procedure, enabling surgeons to monitor brain function in real time and ensure that vital areas were protected while the tumor was carefully removed.

This milestone not only showcases the hospital’s exceptional expertise in advanced neurosurgical techniques but also underscores its commitment to delivering world-class healthcare in Pakistan.
