Punjab province is grappling with a distressing surge in child deaths linked to pneumonia as thirteen more babies lost their lives in a single day.

The concerning death toll has now climbed to 405 children this year, as reported by the Punjab Health Department.

Among the tragic losses are two children from Lahore, three from Faisalabad, and two from Bahawalpur, indicating the widespread impact of pneumonia across different areas. Additionally, Sheikhupura recorded two child fatalities, while Gujranwala, Multan, and Rawalpindi mourned the loss of one child each to pneumonia.

In a span of 24 hours, 304 children were diagnosed with pneumonia in Punjab, emphasizing the pressing need for intervention and support.

Over the year, more than 29,000 cases of pneumonia have been documented in the province, with Lahore alone seeing 114 children hospitalized in a single day.

The Punjab Health Department has issued an appeal to parents, urging them to ensure their children complete their immunization regimen. Immunization remains one of the most effective preventive measures against pneumonia and other infectious diseases, providing crucial protection to vulnerable children.
