Health Minister of Sindh Azra Fazal Pechuho dismissed reports of a surge in Covid-19 cases in the province, stating that the government is also testing influenza patients for the virus as a precautionary measure.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister revealed that out of 100 patients tested for Covid-19, seven returned positive results.
Dr Pechuho explained that patients suffering from flu or influenza symptoms were also tested for Covid-19. She further claimed that those who tested positive were sent home due to the mild nature of their symptoms.
The Minister urged citizens "not to panic over the virus, as it is being treated like the flu worldwide."
However, her statement came amid rumors of rising Covid-19 cases in Sindh.
Earlier, the Sindh Health Department issued directives to all district health officers to take immediate action following a spike in both Covid-19 and H1N1 influenza cases.
As part of the directive, healthcare centers were instructed to monitor cases closely for early detection and treatment.
To curb the spread of these diseases, hospitals have been advised to stock up on personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical staff and implement effective infection control measures.
Public awareness campaigns will also be launched to encourage vaccination and educate the public on preventive measures such as mask-wearing, hand hygiene, and social distancing.
