A 60-year-old woman, Alejandra Marisa Rodriguez, has made history after winning the Miss Universe Buenos Aires beauty pageant.

A lawyer and journalist by profession is the first woman to achieve the accolade at this age.

“I am thrilled to be representing this new paradigm in beauty pageants because we are inaugurating a new stage in which women are not only physical beauty but another set of values. I am the first of this generation to start with this.” Rodriguez said while talking to media post-beauty competition.

“I think the judges saw my confidence and my passion to represent the women of my generation. I am determined to fight for the crown of Miss Universe Argentina 2024,” she added.

If she wins the Miss Argentina crown in May, she will make her way to compete in the international Miss Universe competition.

In the past, the Miss Universe pageant strictly allowed only those between the ages of 18 and 28 to compete.

However, in 2023, the organisation abolished the age limit, saying "every woman over the age of 18 will be able to participate".

The Miss Universe pageant is set to be held in in Mexico on September 24.
