David Steven Cohen, the head writer of the popular animated series Courage the Cowardly Dog, passed away at the age of 58 after battling cancer. His iconic contributions to children's television resulted in numerous masterpieces that entertained young audiences.

Anime historian Jerry Beck confirmed Cohen’s passing in a Facebook post.

Cohen wrote some of the series' most memorable episodes, blending humor with eerie storytelling. Many of his works became fan favorites, including "Klub Katz," "1000 Years of Courage," "Forbidden Hat of Gold," and "The Sand Whale Strikes."

He joined John R Dilworth’s team in Season 1 and was later promoted to head writer in Season 2. Cohen continued writing episodes throughout Seasons 2, 3, and 4, with his penultimate episode being his final contribution before the series concluded in 2002.

Beyond Courage the Cowardly Dog, Cohen’s remarkable storytelling also shaped several other beloved animated series, including Balto, The Wubbulous World of Dr Seuss, and Phil of the Future.

His passing has left colleagues and loved ones mourning his loss while celebrating his lasting impact on animation.
