Renowned actor Durefishan Saleem slammed the Gul Ahmed family and expressed her frustration with how mental illness is frequently used as a defense by the privileged class to avoid legal consequences for their crimes.
Taking to Instagram, she reposted a friend's post that revealed the elderly man and young girl killed in the Karsaz car accident to be his driver's brother-in-law and niece.
Her friend Yawar Iqbal mentioned how the Gul Ahmed family is using flimsy excuses and their financial resources to exploit vulnerable people and avoid legal repercussions.
Yawar pointed to the recent case of Natasha Iqbal, the daughter-in-law of the Gul Ahmed family.
On August 19, she was recklessly driving her SUV on a nearby lane at Karsaz and rammed her car into a bike and several vehicles, which killed a father and daughter and injured four others.
Natasha Iqbal's lawyer initially claimed that she was mentally unstable and that the family was unaware of when she had taken the car from home.
“ [...] the Gul Ahmed family had a mentally ill daughter (Natasha Danish) and they let her drive around freely till she killed two people, my driver’s brother-in-law and his niece,” Durefishan quoted her friend Yawar Iqbal as saying.
“The woman is sitting on a board of a massive organisation. Why would the family let an ill person sit on board?” Iqbal questioned in his post, which was shared by the actress.
“The rich use the term mentally ill so proficiently when they need to dodge the law and with money, they always can,” he added.
“But in this lawless country there is absolutely no accountability for the rich and I for once don’t want the family to wait for the judgment day."
