Renowned Indian producer Ekta Kapoor has made history as the first Indian woman filmmaker to be honoured with the prestigious International Directorate Award at the 51st International Emmy Awards ceremony held in New York.

The award was presented by the renowned author and New Age leader, Deepak Chopra.

Kapoor expressed her determination to continue using her work to make a positive impact on audiences after receiving the Emmys Directorate Award, saying,  “I’m delighted to receive the prestigious Emmys Directorate Award! It brings me immense joy and happiness to be honoured at a global scale, such as this.’

The producer has been behind some of the most popular Indian TV shows including genre defining Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhie Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kkusum, Pavitra Rishta and Kasautii Zindagii Kay, among many others, under the aegis of Balaji telefilms.

Expanding her reach into Bollywood filmmaking, Ekta Kapoor debuted as a producer in 2001 with the film Kyo Kii…Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta.

Her most recent production, Dream Girl 2, stars prominent Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana.
