For nearly eight years, Indian cinephiles have eagerly awaited Fawad Khan's return to the Hindi silver screen. The Pakistani heartthrob, known for his captivating charm and exceptional acting skills, has left a noticeable void in Bollywood since his last appearance in 2016's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
However, according to Filmfare, the wait is almost over. Fawad Khan is set to make a highly anticipated comeback, reportedly starring alongside Vaani Kapoor in a new film, marking his return to Bollywood.
The report indicates that production for the film is set to commence soon, with the initial shooting taking place in London. Although pre-production is finalized, the filmmakers are keeping further details under wraps. This strategy of secrecy suggests that the producers are aware of the significant impact of this casting and want to maximize the announcement's effect.
"Fawad Khan has a massive international following among South Asians worldwide. He has also been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Details of this project are being kept secret, and everyone involved is tight-lipped about it. The producers plan to announce the project just before the filming schedule begins in the UK," a trade source told Bollywood Hungama. This international project is a Hindi language film that will be entirely shot in the UK, directed by Aarti Bagdi.
This yet-untitled film is the first international collaboration for Eastwood Studios, a film company founded by Vivek B Agrawal (formerly of Reliance/Phantom) and Devang Dholakia. Vivek has previously produced acclaimed and cult films such as Queen, Udta Punjab, Super 30, and Netflix’s first Indian series, Sacred Games, which became a global blockbuster.
The rom-com follows the story of two broken individuals who come together by chance and end up helping each other unintentionally, with love eventually blossoming from their electric connection. “Vaani Kapoor has been part of major films and was the perfect choice for this project, given how she has avoided over-exposure. The makers wanted an incredibly fresh casting where Fawad falls in love with a gorgeous Indian girl, and Vaani fit right in,” the source added.
Fawad Khan's absence from Bollywood was due to political tensions between India and Pakistan in 2016. Following the Uri attack, several Pakistani actors, including Fawad, faced restrictions on working in India.
