Veteran actress Bushra Ansari strongly criticised the practice of dowry, calling those who demand it at the time of marriage "dishonorable." She also shared personal experiences, revealing that despite giving her sons-in-law lavish gifts, including an apartment, they did not show gratitude or respect.
In a recent video on her YouTube channel, Bushra Ansari discussed the dowry system and expressed disappointment with those who neglect their wives despite accepting dowry.
She said, "Parents raise their daughters, educate them, and marry them off in the hope of their happiness, often sacrificing their own well-being in the process. I did the same for my daughters."
Bushra Ansari disclosed that, like many parents, she "gave her daughters clothes, jewelry, furniture, and even an apartment at the time of marriage." However, she lamented that her sons-in-law, whom she "treated like her own sons," turned out to be "shameless and ungrateful."
She also highlighted how other countries have laws ensuring women's security after marriage. For example, in Saudi Arabia, men are required to register a house in their wife's name upon marriage.
Similarly, in some Pakistani villages, grooms must build and register a house in their bride's name. Unfortunately, such practices are not widespread across the country.
In the same video, Ansari criticised men who demand large dowries yet fail to support their children after divorcing their wives. She pointed out that many divorced women rely on their parents to raise their children, which exacerabtes their financial and emotional burdens.
Although Bushra Ansari did not name her sons-in-law or clarify whether her daughters are separated or divorced.
