Renowned fashion designer Maria B, a vocal critic of the fantasy drama Barzakh, has vowed to pursue legal action despite its removal from YouTube Pakistan following online backlash.
Maria B took to her Instagram story to react to Barzakh's removal from YouTube. She criticised that the decision to stream the final episode beforehand was a “smart move” by the show's creators.
“Who are you fooling? We are still going to court tomorrow,” she added.
In a separate post, she asserted that portraying such stories in dramas and movies disregards Islamic values and misguides children.
The fashion designer stated that she is prepared to face “hate” for speaking out against homosexuality but will not tolerate anyone “making a mockery of Islam.”
Barzakh, starring Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, was highly anticipated before its release due to the reunion of the on-screen couple and its unconventional fantasy storyline.
However, the third episode of Barzakh featured romantic scenes between two male characters.
The portrayal of two male characters with unconventional sexual orientations prompted fans to accuse the series director of promoting a "Western agenda".
Netizens called for a boycott of the series, with many stating that it indoctrinates people to accept same-sex relationships, which goes against their religious and cultural values.
