Renwoned actor and writer Khaled Anam expressed extreme disappointment in a video as he criticized Justice Ali Baqar Najafi’s statement that linked Noor Mukadam’s murder to her alleged relationship with the culprit. He urged Justice Najafi, who is now part of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC), to retract his words.

Justice Najafi had upheld the sentence handed to Zahir and observed that, “The present case is a direct result of a vice spreading in the upper society, which we know as a ‘living relationship.’”

Khaled Anam reacted strongly, saying, “This is the silliest thing I have ever heard. Imagine a judge saying that Noor Mukadam’s murder happened because of a live-in relationship. Are we really suggesting that such crimes don’t happen to married women? That husbands never hit or kill their wives? For heaven’s sake, may God protect this country and its laws.”

He argued that violence and murder also occur within marriages, so blaming a “live-in relationship” is both misleading and insensitive. Khaled stressed that such comments can distort the understanding of femicide and domestic violence.

He further urged Justice Baqar Ali Najafi to reconsider his statement, adding, “Justice sahib, please look at other cases and you will understand. These two things are not connected at all. I think you should retract your words. What an absurd comparison. You really shouldn’t have said that.”
