Mawra Hocane starrer Sanam Teri Kasam surpasses new Bollywood movies at box office

Indian cinema enthusiasts swooned over the re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam, a poignant romantic film starring Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane. The film not only surpassed its original box office earnings but also outperformed highly anticipated new releases, including Loveyapa, starring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor.

Originally released in 2016, Sanam Teri Kasam performed well in its opening week, with its music gaining widespread popularity. However, enthusiasm faded over time, and the film struggled to maintain momentum at the box office, ultimately being labeled a flop.

Now, with the rise of the reels culture, where social media revives nostalgia for underrated films and songs, re-releases are becoming an increasing trend in Indian cinema.

However, not all re-releases manage to generate significant fanfare.

Sanam Teri Kasam, despite its earlier commercial failure, secured an impressive INR18 crore till Sunday after its re-release, according to Indian media. The Indian Express reported that the film’s total collection has reached INR 25 crore since its re-release.

In contrast, Loveyapa, featuring Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan and Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor, struggled at the box office despite being released around the same time as Sanam Teri Kasam.

With February dominated by Sanam Teri Kasam, Badass Ravikumar, starring Himesh Reshammiya in the lead role, also failed to attract audiences or generate significant revenue.
