Pakistan's star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem made the nation proud as he won the first-ever individual gold medal for the country after a hiatus of 40 years at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024.
The 27-year-old athlete also shattered the Olympic record with a 92.97-metre massive throw in the Summer Games.
During the javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics, hundreds of people gathered outside Nadeem's house in Mian Channu to witness the competition.
The country's master sportsman rewrote the Olympic record books in his second attempt during the game.
Following the achievement, several Pakistani celebrities commended Arshad for bringing honour to the country.
Taking to Instagram, Pakistani star actor Humayun Saeed said that Arshad's passion and hard work made this possible.
"We are all so incredibly proud of you for not just bringing home gold but for breaking records. Maza aa gaya! Pakistan Zindabad," he added.
Host and actor Fahad Mustafa said that every Pakistani is thankful to Arshad Nadeem following his victory at the international stage.
Comedian Ahmad Ali Butt demanded to give Arshad a "brand new house, brand deals, sports academy and more because he's proved he's best".
Here's how prominent personalities reacted to the achievement:
This is the first-ever individual gold medal in the Olympics for Pakistan in 40 years. Earlier in 1984, Pakistan had won gold medals in hockey at the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Pakistan also clinched an Olympic medal after a gap of 32 years. The last time Pakistan won a medal was in 1992 after beating the Netherlands in the hockey event (4-3) at the Barcelona Olympics.
