Cristiano Ronaldo’s much-anticipated YouTube collaboration with MrBeast, titled "I Meet MrBeast to Break the Internet!!", failed to live up to the high expectations set by the Portuguese football star and his fans.
Despite Ronaldo’s initial tease that the guest appearance would "break the internet," many had hoped for a historic pairing with Lionel Messi. Instead, the video featured MrBeast, the world’s most-followed YouTuber with 331 million subscribers.
The conversation between Ronaldo and MrBeast touched on various topics, including their careers, personal milestones, and social media influence. MrBeast began by asking Ronaldo about his thoughts on the YouTuber’s rise to fame, and the two also discussed the possibility of Ronaldo’s son joining him on the field in the future.
Ronaldo shared that while his son is still 14, there’s a chance he could play alongside him as he continues his career.
There were lighter moments during the conversation as well, with MrBeast showcasing some of his extreme challenges, such as burying himself alive for a week. Ronaldo expressed astonishment, calling the stunt "crazy."
The duo also joked about Ronaldo’s age, with MrBeast quipping, “Cristiano, you’re almost 40—about to die,” to which Ronaldo responded that he aims to play well into his 40s, like basketball star LeBron James.
Another notable exchange occurred when MrBeast asked if Ronaldo ever flies commercial, to which Ronaldo admitted that he hasn’t flown commercial in years due to the chaos it would create. T
The video also delved into Ronaldo’s social media success, with MrBeast asking about his feelings upon reaching a billion followers across platforms. Ronaldo explained that while it felt great, it wasn’t surprising due to the passion his fans have for him and football.
Despite gaining one million views within 30 minutes of its release, the video’s growth soon slowed. After 18 hours, the video had garnered 17 million views, far below the record-setting 90 million views reached by the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer in just 24 hours.
Some fans expressed disappointment with the collaboration, particularly since they had expected Messi to appear, following Ronaldo’s earlier teaser videos.
As a result, engagement with the video began to taper off. MrBeast even suggested that Ronaldo collaborate with either iShowSpeed, a dedicated fan, or Messi himself in the future to truly "break the internet."
While the video didn’t reach the level of viral success anticipated, Ronaldo remains focused on his professional commitments, including his upcoming Saudi Pro League match against Al-Qadisiyah. Fans are left eagerly awaiting his next moves, both on and off the pitch.
