A case has been registered against well-known singer Salman Ahmad under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly spreading propaganda against state institutions on social media, police confirmed on Monday.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case was filed at Defence A police station on behalf of the state.

The FIR states that Salman Ahmad, who has 265.4k followers on his X (formerly Twitter) account, allegedly posted false and hateful content targeting national security institutions.

The report further mentions that one of the viral posts was personally observed by an on-duty police officer, leading to official action.

The FIR accuses Ahmad of attempting to spread hatred and misinformation, constituting a serious offence under relevant sections of the PECA law.
