Renowned actor Mawra Hocane recently spoke about the disturbing prevalence of emotional and physical abuse in marriages, emphasising how her drama series Jafaa inspired many women to confide in her about their experiences with domestic violence.
In a candid interview, Mawra revealed that even “renowned people from the industry” messaged her, sharing their struggles with domestic abuse. Mawra expressed her shock upon learning that women she perceived as "strong and powerful" were silently enduring such ordeals.
She highlighted how her role in Jafaa resonated deeply with many women as the story portrayed a financially independent doctor who still faced domestic abuse.
Mawra said it felt like an accomplishment when women reached out to her, saying her character reflected their own painful realities.
The drama Jafaa delves into critical themes, with marital abuse taking center stage, showing how a seemingly perfect marriage can mask horrifying abuse for a woman.
Mawra played Dr Zara, a doctor married to Hassan (portrayed by Mohib Mirza), whose character struggled with unresolved childhood trauma, leading to uncontrollable anger.
Despite Zara’s efforts to help him through therapy, Hassan continued to lie and physically assault her, ultimately resulting in their separation.
