Renowned television, film and stage actor Javed Kodu passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness, according to his family.
He had been undergoing treatment at a general hospital and had long been battling multiple health issues, including heart disease, paralysis from a brain haemorrhage, and post-surgery complications.
Kodu, who was known for his short stature and comedic timing, gained prominence through his roles in popular dramas such as Ainak Wala Jinn and Ashiana. Over the years, he became a familiar face in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, particularly in theatre and children’s television.
His funeral prayer will be held in Singh Pura after Zuhr, family sources confirmed.
In a previous interview, the late artist had spoken about his deteriorating health and financial difficulties, expressing hope that his peers would support him during tough times. However, he also acknowledged the widespread impact of inflation on others in the industry.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over Kodu’s passing, calling it a significant loss for the media industry. He said Kodu’s contribution to the arts would be remembered, and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
