Nadia Hussain recounts harassment, police 'indifference'

Model and actor Nadia Hussain recounted the distressing details of a harassment incident that occurred near her home in Karachi. She expressed disbelief when her complaint to the police was met with indifference and the officers went on to shake hands with the harasser.

Her car was followed by a stalker. This incident, as shared by Nadia, sheds light on the sorry state of affairs of public safety in Pakistan. It underscores the unsettling reality that those entrusted with our protection, such as the police, can leave people feeling more vulnerable and unprotected.

In a podcast interview, the ‘Ladies Park’ actor disclosed, "I was followed on Sea View. I had been returning from the Dolmen side, heading towards my home. However, instead of going there, I moved towards Darakshan and kept moving through the alleyways. Then, I came back to Sea View, where I saw a police mobile."

Nadia, initially relieved by the police presence, expected their assistance in apprehending the perpetrator for her safety. Unfortunately, to her profound dismay, the police ignored her complaint and engaged in conversation with the harasser, who also stopped exactly behind her in a car. 

“When I stopped near the police mobile and got out to complain that the guy was following me and the guy in the car casually got out of his car. I was horrified to see that the policeman went to that guy and shook his hands and bowed down to him,” said Nadia.

The ‘Ishq Junoon Deewangi’ actor had anticipated the police to apprehend the perpetrator. Instead, their actions heightened her sense of insecurity. "I couldn't believe it. I'm here, reporting that this person is following me, and the police are shaking hands with him. I had no idea who he was.”

Furious at the disturbing incident, Nadia shared that, as the police was busy talking to the harasser, she swiftly left the scene to attend to her errands. 

Despite her efforts, the man continued to trail her, even reaching her mother's house. Nadia approached her security guards and filed a complaint with the community's security department.

she bravely confronted the man directly, and stood outside her home, “waiting to see his intentions, eventually, he departed a short while later,” explained Nadia.
