French authorities detained more than 400 people following violent clashes that erupted in Paris as celebrations turned chaotic after Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League final victory, officials said on Saturday.

According to France’s Interior Ministry, a total of 416 people were detained nationwide, including 283 in Paris. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said seven police officers were injured during the unrest, which also caused damage to vehicles, businesses and public property.

Authorities deployed around 22,000 police officers across France, including 8,000 in Paris, in anticipation of possible disorder. Despite the heavy security presence, large crowds gathered in central Paris, with around 20,000 supporters assembling on the Champs-Élysées to celebrate PSG’s win in Budapest.

Officials said tram services were halted and several metro stations were closed temporarily to control the situation. Police reported that a group of supporters briefly blocked sections of the Paris ring road and set off flares.

Near the Parc des Princes stadium, where thousands gathered to watch the match, some clashes were reported between fans and police. Authorities said fireworks and projectiles were thrown, prompting police to use crowd-control measures including tear gas.

The celebrations came amid multiple major events across the city, further straining security resources. Officials have described the violence as unacceptable and said investigations are ongoing.
