At least 11 security personnel and a young girl were martyred after militants attacked a joint check post of security forces and law enforcement agencies in Bajaur district, according to a statement issued by ISPR on Tuesday.
The military’s media wing said that the attack took place on February 16 when terrorists attempted to breach the facility’s security. It said troops responded and engaged the assailants, killing 12 militants belonging to Indian proxy khwarij during the exchange.
According to the statement, the attackers also rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post. The resulting blast caused parts of the structure to collapse, leading to the deaths of the security personnel.
The explosion also damaged nearby residential buildings, martyring a young girl and injuring seven other civilians, including women and children, it added.
Security forces have launched sanitisation operations in the area to clear any remaining attackers. The statement said counterterrorism efforts under the ongoing campaign approved under the National Action Plan framework would continue.
