US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome on Monday called on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) top brass and discussed matters of mutual interets,  inculding economy and regional security.

The meeting was held at the chamber of the Leader of the Opposion in National Assembly and was attended by PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, Omar Ayub Khan, Asad Qaiser and Raoof Hassan.

Following the meeting, the news circulated on social media that the PTI leadrship discussed party founder Imran Khan's release with the US envoy.

However, the claims were refuted by Opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan, saying that no talks were held for the release of the former prime minister.

But, the social media users lashed out at the former ruling party's leadership for holding talks with US Ambassador, whom PTI assuced of hatching conspiracy to topple their government in 2022 via cipher cable.

The cipher controversy arose in a public gathering on March 27, 2022, when the former prime minister had pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and waved it at the crowd, claiming that it was evidence of an "international conspiracy" being hatched to topple his government.

The PTI founder claimed that the then-Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, led by PML-N, PPP, JUI-F, and other parties, was involved in the conspiracy.

He did not reveal the contents of the letter nor did he mention the name of the nation it came from.

But a few days later, he accused the United States of conspiring against him and alleged that Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Affairs Donald Lu had sought his removal.

The cipher was sent by then Pakistan's ambassador to US Asad Majeed.

Later, Donald Lu rejected the cricketer-turned poitician's allegations, terming it a "lie" and "falsehood".

However, the recent metting between the US envoy and PTI was not received well by the netizens, who demanded Imran Khan's party to withdraw all relations with the country whom they accused of hatching a conspiracy against their founding chairman.

Reacting to the criticism, PTI secretary general said that the meeting took place on the directions of the ministry of foreign affairs.
