Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud was wounded after unknown armed men opened fire on his convoy while it was traveling near Bagan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, government spokesperson Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif confirmed on Saturday.

Barrister Saif stated that DC Javedullah Mehsud was treated in Alizai Hospital, his condition was said to be out of danger, and the authorities made  arrangements to shift him to Peshawar via helicopter.

An official stated that at least four, including DC and three Frontier Corp personnel, were injured in the incident.

Police officials stated that Deputy Commissioner Mehsud had traveled to Bagan to facilitate the passage of aid convoys by clearing the thoroughfare.

It is pertinent to mention that DC Javedullah Mehsud was part of the arbitration group that facilitated the resolution of a decade-long land dispute through a peace agreement. He also played a significant role in opening roads to Upper Kurram.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the incident and attributed the attack to the “incompetence and failure of the provincial government.”

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi described it as a “conspiracy to sabotage the peace agreement.”

proofreaD:Warring sides of the Kurram district signed a peace agreement on Wednesday after three week-long efforts by the arbitrators for a ceasefire amidst prolonged violence in the area.

The agreement said that following this settlement, all previously blocked roads in the Kurram district will be reopened, paving the way for lasting peace in the region.

Earlier, at least 130 people were killed in clashes over land disputes since November. These clashes sparked protests in Karachi, which severely disrupted traffic in the port city.
