A devastating multi-vehicle crash occurred on the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway on Saturday morning after light rain, leaving one person dead and at least 24 injured, according to rescue sources.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Saturday morning when four vehicles collided at the spot. These included two passenger buses, two cars, an oil tanker, and containers traveling from Hyderabad to Karachi.
Rescue sources said that the incident claimed the life of one individual and left 24 wounded. The victims were shifted to the Trauma Centre of Civil Hospital. However, the deceased, a young man, remains unidentified.
The police stated that the incident occurred when a passenger bus slipped and overturned after light rain.
This triggered a chain reaction, another passenger bus, two cars, and an oil tanker collided with the overturned bus, while a container also collided with the other vehicles as drivers attempted to brake suddenly.
“The passenger bus lost its balance and overturned, causing another bus coming from behind to collide with it,” Geo News quoted police.
Earlier, a bus overturned near Fateh Jang on Punjab's M-14 Motorway, claiming at least 11 lives, including six women and five men.
Road accidents are a recurring menace in Pakistan, largely attributed to a combination of factors such as reckless driving, poor road infrastructure, and adverse weather conditions.
