The federal cabinet has approved a significant salary increase for federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers, raising their monthly salaries to Rs519,000, according to media report.
According to sources, this adjustment represents an increase of up to 188% for these officeholders.
The decision follows the Finance Committee of the National Assembly’s earlier approval of a proposal to align the salaries and perks of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators with those of federal secretaries.
The committee, chaired by Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, unanimously endorsed the pay adjustment two months ago. The salary revision aims to standardize compensation across key government positions.
The approval has sparked discussions regarding public expenditure and financial priorities as Pakistan faces economic challenges. However, officials argue that the hike ensures parity among government officials in similar roles.
