Karachi experienced the coldest morning of the year on Thursday with light rain predicted to turn the weather chillier in the metropolis.

The weather department has predicted drizzle in the city that is currently in the grip of the cold wave due to northeast winds blowing at a speed of 8 km per hour.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said that the cold might intensify in the coming days.

The port city's temperature is likely to drop as it will receive the first winter rain, it added.

Meanwhile, the weather department said the prevailing dense foggy conditions will continue over Punjab, including Islamabad, plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.

It further predicted that a rain-bearing westerly system will likely enter Balochistan on January 4 and may affect parts of the province until January 5.

"Light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm (with snowfall over hills) is expected in Chaghi, Quetta, Chaman, Ziarat, Qilla Abdullah, Qillah Saifullah, Loralai, Pishin, Mastung, Zhob, Kalat, Musa Khel, Kharan, Harnai, Sibbi, Noshki, Khuzdar and Makran coast on 04th and 05th January," it added.

The minimum temperature was recorded in Lai (-11°C ), followed by Skardu (-9°C), Gilgit and Gupis (-6°C).
