Karachi: In a significant legal development, the Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate of Karachi West has officially approved Dua Bhutto's request for Khula (divorce) from her husband, Haleem Adil Sheikh, a prominent political figure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The court’s decision came after noting that multiple reconciliation efforts between the two parties had failed, making it impossible for the couple to continue their marriage.
During the proceedings, the court highlighted the importance of maintaining the welfare of the couple's child and ruled that Haleem Adil Sheikh is required to provide financial support. As per the court’s orders, he is obligated to pay 24,000 rupees per month for the child’s expenses.
This monthly child support is aimed at ensuring the child’s educational, healthcare, and basic needs are met.
While the Khula proceedings have been concluded, the court has deferred further hearings regarding the specifics of child support payments. The next session is scheduled for September 21, during which any outstanding issues relating to the child's financial care will be discussed in greater detail.
This decision marks the end of a long-standing legal battle between Dua Bhutto and Haleem Adil Sheikh. The case has been closely followed due to both individuals' public profiles and the legal precedent it could set for similar cases in the region.
The court's ruling serves as a reminder of the legal avenues available to women seeking divorce under Pakistan’s family law, as well as the judiciary’s focus on child welfare in divorce cases. The next hearing on September 21 will further clarify the arrangements for the child’s financial future.
