Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ammara Athar has granted an additional monthly leave and slashed one hour of daily duty time for traffic wardens serving amidst an excessive heatwave in the provincial capital.
She commended the wardens for performing duties in 45 degrees Celsius under the open sky on roads and at chowks. The official said reports had been received that many traffic wardens’ health had deteriorated because of the heatwave.
The CTO issued orders to deliver umbrellas, cold drinks and water to the war- dens at regular intervals. She also allowed the wardens to take brief intervals for rest during duty. They have also been allowed a relaxation in the dress cod.
The Met Office has said that most of the plain areas of the country will remain under the influence of severe heat wave, while dusty winds/thunderstorms are likely to occur in the afternoon on Monday (tomorrow).
However, it has predicted partly cloudy weather along with the possibility of scattered showers with strong winds and thunderstorms in Gilgit-Baltistan.
