Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that speculation regarding the court martial proceedings should be avoided, adding that the court martial of former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed is a legal and judicial process.

Speaking informally to journalists, the DG ISPR made it clear that Pakistan did not carry out any operation inside Afghanistan last night, and whenever Pakistan has acted, it has done so with an official announcement.

The military spokesperson stated that Pakistan never targets civilians, and urged the Afghan Taliban to take decisive action against terrorists.

“Our issue is with the interim Afghan government, not with the Afghan people,” he said.

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry added that the Pakistani nation and armed forces are united against terrorism and will pursue terrorists until the very end.

However, he stressed that a coordinated fight against terrorism requires fixing internal matters first.

In response to a question, he said that the Afghan regime must take verifiable action against terrorist hideouts, and without such action, dialogue will not take place.

He revealed that since November 4, a total of 206 terrorists have been killed, while 4,910 operations have been conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He further stated that all suicide attackers involved in recent incidents were Afghan nationals.

Answering another question, the DG ISPR said that proceedings of the court martial against former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed were ongoing.

He reiterated that the process is purely legal and judicial, and that unnecessary speculation should be avoided.

The military spokesperson added that breaking the nexus of smuggling and political crimes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border is essential, as cross-border facilitation of terrorism remains the biggest challenge.
