The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan for allegedly inciting people against the government and state institutions, sources said on Saturday.

The development came after the former prime minister refused to join the probe initiated against him over his provocative social media post.

A team of FIA, comprising investigation and technical officers, visited Mr Khan at Adiala Jail in connection with a controversial post on his official X handle, but the ex-premier denied becoming part of an investigation.

The officials returned empty-handed as Khan said he would not join the interrogation without the presence of his lawyers.

In this regard, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar vowed to probe those who were the handlers of Imran Khan’s social media accounts, which "are being used to promote anarchy and chaos in the country and undermine national security".

“They want to go towards mutiny and are willing to spread anarchy across the country. The army is being targeted via social media platforms [of Imran Khan],” Tarar said.

“This attempt has been made to conspire against the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the heads of institutions, with his post, he tried to provoke people against institutions, which is highly condemnable,” he added.
