Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the "Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar" project for the homeless low-income people in the province.

"Punjab is taking the lead in everything; people are now looking up to us," she said while addressing the launching ceremony.

"The blessing of having one's own house is truly invaluable. Those who already own homes may not appreciate its significance, but ask those who do not have a roof over their heads – they will tell you about the intensity of this desire. It's a feeling that's hard to put into words."

Regarding the scheme, the provincial head explained that the plan has been devised successfully and "soon construction of the houses will be started".

"My father Nawaz Sharif was eagerly awaiting this scheme as he believed that providing someone with a roof to live under is one of the greatest services one can offer," Punjab's first woman CM noted.

The scheme offers financial assistance of up to 1.5 million, payable in easy installments over 7 years, with no payments required for the first 3 months, followed by monthly installments of Rs14,000.

"If people in urban areas have land measuring between 1 to 5 marlas, and those in rural areas have land between 1 to 10 marlas, the Punjab government will provide financial assistance of up to 15 lacs.

"This loan scheme has no interest, no service charges, no taxes, and no hidden fees. I have also requested the banks to waive any additional charges."

The provincial government has also set up a dedicated phone number, 080009100, to provide assistance to those willing to apply for the scheme.

CM Maryam also acknowledged the challenges faced by the poverty-hit masses due to inflation and exorbitant electricity bills.

"Therefore, we are offering relief in electricity bills and introducing the largest solar program in history," she added.

"People work hard all their lives to build a house. These schemes are designed keeping this desire in mind. I intend to take this scheme to every corner of Punjab within 5 years. Punjab is leading the way, and I am working 16 hours a day non-stop to make it happen."
