The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Monday said that the port city is likely to receive heavy rains from August 27 (Tuesday).

A rain emergency meeting, chaired by CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah, was held at the Chief Minister House in Karachi.

During the meeting, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz informed the provincial government that the new rain system is expected to enter Sindhi today and will continue till August 31.

Another monsoon spell is likely to reach Sindh in the first week of September, which will affect parts of the province, including Karachi.

The weatherman said that 250 to 300mm rain is likely to fall in Thatta, Sajawal, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar and Nawabshah during the new spell, while 500mm downpour may lash Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tharparkar and Umarkot. 

70 to 100mm showers are expected in other districts of Sindh, he added.

According to Sarfaraz, the megapolis in likey to receive 150-200mm rain during the spell.

Earlier in an advisory, the weather department predicted that thundershowers are expected in Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Islamkot, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Umarkot, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, Sanghar, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Khairpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu and Naushahro Feroze.
