The Punjab government has started installing smog-clean towers across Lahore to transform smoggy winters into a cleaner, chillier season.
The Environmental Protection Department of Punjab placed the first tower at Mehmood Booti of Lahore as the area has reported record-breaking smog since the beginning of winter.
The smog-clean tower will be functional next week, according to the authorities.
A spokesperson in the department claimed that the tower equipped with advanced technology has the ability to clean the year by scanning unhealthy particles from it, offering promising solutions to improve Lahore’s air quality.
Senior Provincial Minister Punjab Maryam Aurangzeb expressed the need for the installation of these towers across the country to address the pollution, as she believed that the use of technology is necessary to deal with the smog.
However, the minister also emphasized the government's efforts to reduce smog, noting that small industrial units responsible for smog have been sealed in various cities across the province.
It is pertinent to mention here that the worsening smog crisis in Lahore prompted over two million residents to seek medical care at healthcare facilities in a month due to severe respiratory problems and other health complications.
