The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Tuesday announced that mobile services in "some areas" of Karachi will remain suspended till 8am on April 24 (Wednesday).

The telecommunication regulator said that the decision to suspend the services is on the instructions issued by the Ministry of Interior.

"This decision is being taken to ensure the security of the dignitary’s visit to Karachi," PTA added.

However, the authority has not specified areas that would be affected by the restriction.

According to sources, the areas where mobile services are suspended are Saddar, Empress Market, PIDC, and surrounding areas.

The restriction is a part of strict measures to ensure security during Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi's visit to metropolis.

On the other hand, Raisi and his delegation arrived in Karachi and visited Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's mausoleum to pay his respects to the founder of the nation.

The Iranian president was received by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori at Jinnah International Airport.

The Iranian president will hold meetings with CM Murad and Governor Tessori during his visit to the port city.

He will also address members of the business forum and attend a dinner at the CM House.

Raisi is currently on a three-day visit to Pakistan and had arrived a day ago.
