On Wednesday, Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani revealed that motorcycles and rickshaws would be banned from the Malir Expressway once it is completed.

He made this announcement during a visit to the Phase-I construction site, stating that any violations of traffic rules on the expressway would lead to fines.

Ghani highlighted that the Malir Expressway would be a major development for Karachi, calling it a "gift" from the Sindh government under the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He expressed hope that the expressway would drastically improve the city’s infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion.

Upon completion, the expressway is expected to cut travel time significantly—transforming the commute from Korangi to the airport to just 20 minutes, and reducing travel time between Korangi and nearby areas to about five minutes.

The same day, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced plans for an automatic toll system to be installed along the expressway, which will feature 18 toll booths for better commuter efficiency. The toll fees will be Rs100 for cars and Rs200 for buses.
