Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmakers have called for a public holiday on the death anniversary of Pakistan’s first prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan.
A resolution to this effect has been submitted in the Sindh Assembly.
According to details, the resolution was submitted by MQM lawmakers Jamal Ahmed, Qurat-ul-Ain, Naseer Ahmed and Faisal Rafiq.
It states that Liaquat Ali Khan, as the country’s first Prime Minister and a close confidant of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, deserves national recognition through an official holiday on his anniversary.
Liaquat Ali Khan’s death anniversary is observed on October 16.
On this day in 1951, during a public gathering, Pakistan’s first Prime Minister was assassinated by an attacker who opened fire with a revolver, marking one of the earliest and most tragic political killings in the country’s history.
