The Sindh government has put a ban on 143 fireband ulema and zakireen for two months in order to ensure security during the month of Muharram.
According to the notification issued by the Sindh Home Department on Saturday, the banned speakers would not be allowed to travel by road, rail or other means for 60 days.
"In exercise of the powers conferred u/s 5(1) (a) (b) and (c) of the Sindh Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, the Government of Sindh is pleased to order that the provocative/firebrand speakers shall not travel either by road, rail or other means to enter or reside in the banned districts of Sindh as mentioned against their respective name," the notification read.
However, the list of provocative speakers also included the name of Mufti Tariq Masood, who is famous for his satiric remarks during his sermons.
On the other hand, the Sindh government has also imposed section 144 of the CrPC across the province during the ten days of Muharram.
Pillion riding has also been banned on Muharram 9 and 10 in the metropolis.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet on July 6 (today) to see the Muharram moon.
However, the chance of the moon sighting is not likely today, according to the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD).
The Met office said that the crescent for the Islamic month is expected to be seen on Sunday, which will mark the beginning of Muharram 1446 AH.
The weather department added that Ashura is likely to fall on Wednesday (July 17).
