Mugger jumps from flyover to escape police during robbery in Karachi

A mugger attempted to escape a police chase by jumping from a flyover during a robbery near Millennium Mall in the port city on Friday.

However, he was caught and tortured by people standing under the bridge.

A video of the police encounter on the Millennium Flyover surfaced on social media which showed a robber jumping from the bridge.

In the video, a bystander apprehended the suspect, and a crowd quickly gathered and beat him. Meanwhile, the cops also arrived from the opposite side of the bridge.

The traffic flow was disrupted on the road as a large crowd gathered at the scene.

A day earlier, three muggers on a motorbike attempted to rob a cash van carrying Rs15 million near a shopping mall in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi. However, the robbery was foiled by the timely intervention of the police.

But, a security guard and driver of the van were killed due to the shots fired by the bandits.

According to the police, a local builder's employees were transporting Rs15 million when the suspects opened fire.

The police said that after hearing the sound of firing, the cops on patrol also reached immediately and hit the bike of the robbers, injuring two accused, while one of the robbers escaped to the nearby shopping mall after firing shots at the police.

One of the robbers, wounded in a shootout with police, later succumbed to his injuries.

The builder's staff said that the cash was being transferred to another office when the robbers tried to steal the money.

Police stated that the accused had a history of criminal activity, including the murder of a citizen during a robbery in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
